HeartBeat: an original design by Lionel T Dean for the Precious project.

Product Artist Lionel T Dean has been exploring the creative potential of digital design and manufacturing technology for over a decade and is at the forefront of 3D printing in Art and Design. In the Precious project he is working with leading UK industrial partners to demonstrate the viability of precious metal additive manufacturing and to illustrate the potential new business models the technology can allow.

HeartBeat: Behind the scenes

3D printed customised jewellery in 18kt gold powder. This video shows a step by step view of each process involved in the creation and manufacturing of the HeartBeat piece. To demonstrate this concept, the HeartBeat piece was created from design to polishing and involved the 6 major steps below. These steps were performed by 5 entities/businesses to demonstrate an example of a distributed supply chain across the UK.
